Import Licence (Tobacco / Alcohol)

Overview

This import licence is required for the commercial importation of tobacco products, including cigarettes, and alcoholic beverages. It is issued by the Director General of Customs under the Customs Regulations 1977. Individuals importing for personal use and exempt from customs duties under the Customs Act 1967 do not need this licence.

Application requirements

- The applicant must be a member of the Board of Directors or the owner of the company. - If the applicant is a company representative, a certified letter of appointment must be submitted. - The application must be completed in the format provided in Appendix A and submitted to the Assistant Director of Customs Zone/State along with the following documents: - A copy of the Business Registration letter or Memorandum & Articles of Association. - Form 24 and Form 49 if it is a Public Limited Company or Private Limited Company. - Documents showing the applicant has a valid/permanent premise and storage such as ownership documents or tenancy agreements. - A letter of appointment as a distributor/importer from the supplier or manufacturer. - Confirmation that the applicant company has a minimum paid-up capital of RM 350,000.00. - Recent bank statements must be submitted to prove the company's financial capability. - A letter of permission to store goods in a licensed public warehouse by the relevant operator (if applicable). - A wholesale/retail licence approved by the Local Authority (for alcoholic beverages only). - A business premises licence from the Local Authority.

New Application/Renewal: Processing fee: RM 4,800.00 The import licence fee is RM 4,800 for a 12-month approval period.
